Kids' solar printing
Description: In this one-hour workshop children will learn how to harness the power of the sun to create a totally unique sun print. The activity includes:

Designing a pattern on a piece of recycled material using items found in nature

Harnessing the energy from the sun to make a botanical sun-print using a vintage 'camera-less' photographic process

Discussing ways to use the printed fabric

Learning about the sun and the many different ways it can support us, our life style and life on the planet

Learning about textiles, the epic textile waste problem and some of the things we can do to help reduce it.
Message to Parents: This activity will be using non-toxic liquid dyes and, while the activity is supervised and the children will be asked to be careful, we highly recommend that participating children wear old clothing or brings along a smock to wear as the dye will not wash off. Staining of hands may occur but the dye will fade in 1-2 days.
Target Age: Children 5 and up
Parental Supervision: 7 and below
What to wear: As the activity uses dyes, it is recommended that children wear old clothes or bring a smock to wear
Number of sessions: 4 sessions, one every hour (11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm)
