Clean Energy Nillumbik (CEN) is a not for profit organisation in the shire of Nillumbik in the north eastern suburbs of Melbourne. We formed in January 2017 and aim to accelerate the transition of the Shire of Nillumbik to 100% clean stationary energy in the next 10 years. This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the shire, and contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change. Stationary energy is the energy we consume as electricity and gas to power our homes, businesses and communities. On average in Australia it accounts for about *52% of greenhouse gas emissions.
CEN is a community group made up of a cross section of people from across the shire. We have representatives from business, community, environmental groups and advisors from Nillumbik Shire Council.
CEN is part of a network of Zero Carbon Communities that was established by Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE) . BZE is an Australian not for profit climate solutions think tank with a large national network of scientists, engineers, economists and expert advisors.
The CEN committee is made up of dedicated volunteers from across the shire and has the support of the Nillumbik Shire Council.
